We all have our routines. Those little must-haves we do daily. My favorite? Espresso <3
Years ago, I would stop by the local coffee shop each day. Generally, I would make my breakfast before leaving for work and swing by to get my mocha frappuccino before heading in to the office. Some days I didn't have the energy to make breakfast beforehand so I got my usual coffee along with a wrap or sandwich. This was my daily habit for years, 5 days out of the week at the minimum.
One day, it hit me like a ton of bricks. That measly $5 each day was adding up quickly. At only one coffee per day, I was spending $25 a week equaling $100 a month just for coffee! And that's IF I didn't get breakfast along with my order which was starting to be the case. That means I was spending $10 each day, 5 days a week totaling $200 a month just on breakfast alone!
I had to stop this habit but knew giving up my daily espresso was not an option. My self-compromise? My own personal espresso machine. It was hard to pull the trigger at first on such an extravagant purchase. But I broke it down. Even if I spent $500 on a new machine, it would pay for itself in just a few months. I pulled the trigger. Best. Purchase. Ever.
Every morning, even on the weekends, I have my daily cup of espresso for fractions of the cost. My favorite part about it? Knowing what is going into my drinks and my body every day. Big-named coffee shops use chemically-treated products. Conventional coffee is among the most heavily chemically treated foods in the world. It is steeped in synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides. Not only does the environment suffer from this overload, but so do the people who live in it. They add extra pumps of sugar to vamp up the flavor, serving you up an average of 500 calories in just one cup.
I buy my espresso on Amazon. 1 lb of Organic Espresso for $14. I use Organic Almond Milk (lactose is not my friend) that costs $5 a gallon. I go through a gallon every two weeks and the espresso last 2 months. Pictured below is our "coffee station" at home!

Let's do the math. After you have paid for your espresso machine (with my spending at the local coffee shop, it paid for itself in 2.5 months), at $5 a gallon every 2 weeks, that's $10 I spend in milk a month. My bag of espresso costs $14 and lasts for 2 months. So in 2 months, I spend a total of $34 on my daily milk and espresso (over ice).
That's $34 vs $200 I was spending in 2 months on coffee alone.
Like I said, it is an investment that pays for itself. That's the line of thinking I want you to be in. The bigger picture. It was tough to make that initial purchase but it's been one of my favorite how-to money saving tips so far because who doesn't love their daily coffee?! It was an investment. An investment to my wealth and an investment to my health.
After much research, I decided on the Breville Espresso Machine. There are other cost-effective options out there but I've always been one to know you get what you pay for and I wanted a machine that would last. Below to the left is a link to the Breville Machine I purchased years ago that I HIGHLY recommend as well as a more cost-effective option that is highly rated. I've also included a link for an organic ground espresso I love and regularly order!
