Along with my daily coffee habit, I also enjoy a delicious smoothie. It's my favorite way of getting my fruit and/or veggie intake for the day. Years ago, I use to purchase smoothies from all over: corporate shops, mom and pop shops, etc. On average, I was paying $7 for each smoothie. I started researching what was in these smoothies and realized they weren't as healthy for me as I originally thought. There were tons of added sugars and artificial flavors and ingredients. Yet again, another product I was lead to believe was good for me.
I wasn't willing to give up on this habit but I didn't want to continue putting all the extra, unnecessary ingredients that came along with the smoothie into my body. On top of that, it was a costly habit. At an average of $7, 5 days out of the week, I was spending $140 each month on smoothies alone! My solution? Buy a blender, the fruits and make my own. I started out buying fresh fruits but realized quickly, attempting to make a smoothie daily before work and getting to the fruit before it rapidly went bad was a task. In this day and age, convenience is everything. I adjusted my sails and started buying frozen fruits. Still, the daily task was just too much for me on top of the rest of life's daily demands.
I was already into meal prepping for my week since I basically ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at work with my schedule, so I decided, why not meal prep my smoothies too? This was the ticket. Make one large batch, once a week, pour into mason jars and freeze! It has now been a weekly habit of mine for years. I get to eat an organic smoothie daily that averages $1 each!

One large bag of organic fruits - $9.99 - I get 2 full blenders out of each bag and out of each blender, 5 smoothies for the week!
I love adding bananas, probiotic yogurt and Vanilla flavored Organic Protein powder. The possibilities and flavors are endless!
I went through several low-end blenders quickly. They didn't have the power or proper blades for what I was using it for (large frozen fruits). After much research, I decided to go with the Ninja blender. The initial cost was a bit to swallow at first but within 1 month, based on how much I was spending for my monthly smoothie habit, it paid for itself and has continued to do so. I have been especially pleased with it since! I also love the fact that it has the single-serve attachment if I want to make a single fresh smoothie on the weekend and haven't had time to set one of my pre-made ones down. Which leads me to my player-tip: If you are wanting a smoothie that day, set it from the freezer to the fridge in the morning and enjoy same day! After sitting for a day, the smoothie contents start to separate and it isn't as enjoyable. Below are links to the Ninja blender I HIGHLY recommend and a great brand of Organic Protein powder that help make your smoothies more nutritious, flavorful and filling!
