We all know about the recommended eight, 8-oz. glasses of water per day to stay hydrated and healthy. Life gets busy which means most people must take their water to go, most commonly in the form of disposable plastic water bottles. These bottles create a multitude of issues for our health as well as our environment.
60 million plastic water bottles end up in landfills DAILY. Plastic waste is extremely harmful to the environment and penetrates every aspect of it, including the land, oceans, marine life, and our own bodies. Drinking from a disposable plastic bottle may lead to chemical leaching and toxicity. Chemical leaching occurs when heat causes the toxic chemicals from the plastic to be released into the water. That means leaving water bottles outside in the car or taking them with you to the beach or pool could heat them to a temperature that’s deemed unsafe by many experts in the field due to microplastic contamination. When this takes place, there’s a chance the water you’re drinking has traces of lead, chlorine, bacteria, and pesticides, in addition to several other impurities that are toxic to your health.
Another bonus to reducing our use of water bottles is cost.
A 24 Pack of 16 oz. bottles run on average $5. That's 21 cent a bottle. Say you drink the recommended eight, 8 oz. per day. That's four, 16 oz. bottles equaling 84 cent per day. Each month that's $26 per person in your household drinking just 4, 16 oz. bottles per day.
Family of 2 = $52
Family of 3 = $78
Family of 4 =$104
Family of 5 = $130 and so on.
That's IF you buy in bulk. Single bottles of water picked up on the run at a gas station average $1.50 each! That drastically increases the monthly cost of your water habit. Also, we all know how water bottles end up EVERYWHERE around the house, in cars, at work, half full (optimism ;) which creates even more wasteful habits.

For years, my husband and I have been using a half gallon bottle that we fill up each day with our fridge dispenser before heading out to work. (If you don't have a water dispenser on your fridge, a filtering water pitcher or fauc
et filter works too! *Recommendations below) Half a gallon equals out to the recommended eight, 8 oz. bottles per day which also makes it easier to keep track of our recommended daily goal! Another bonus, it's BPA free. BPA stands for bisphenol A. BPA is an industrial chemical that has been used to make certain plastics and resins since the 1960s. BPA is found in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate plastics are often used in containers that store food and beverages, such as water bottles. BPA is an endocrine disruptor. It can imitate the body's hormones, and it can interfere with the production, secretion, transport, action, function, and elimination of natural hormones. BPA can behave in a similar way to estrogen and other hormones in the human body. It has also been linked to Heart Disease and Type 2 Diabetes, Asthma, Liver & Brain, Immune & Thyroid function and even PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome).
So with this one bottle, we are drinking healthy water, easily keeping track of our recommended daily intake AND saving money! It's a win all around. Below, to the left, is the bottle I ordered for my husband and I that we use daily. I purchased them almost 2 years ago and they are still going strong. It has a snap top that is leak-proof, a carry strap and a handle for easy use. HIGHLY recommend! At $16, filling this daily via your fridge dispenser or filter pitcher or faucet filter, you could save a substantial amount of cash monthly. Don't forget as mentioned in my first post, a few hundred here and there add up quicker than you think!
